A number of sudden complications led to my family all being in different places this Christmas. Instead of choosing just one of them I decided to take a solo trip to Utah.
I've needed some time to think about what I really want and where all of this is going and this solo 10 day escape to the wilderness gave me what I needed.
Day 1/10: Boulder to Colorado National Monument

Took a detour off of I-70 to check out Loveland Pass which I'd never seen before.
Day 2/10: Colorado National Monument

A bit farther up the road I came across a sign to something called "Trail Through Time" in "Rabbit Valley" . I had no choice but to check it out...
It turns out to be a part of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area which I've read is a good place to go for shoulder season backpacking.
From here I took a detour on Highway 128 to get to Moab. This was supposed to add 20 minutes but was supposed to be much more scenic.
Unfortunately the sun was almost completely set so I didn't get views of much else besides the sunset.
I made it Canyonlands National Park in the dark around 8pm and aimed for the Willow Flat campground in the Island in the Sky District. There was a forecast for 1-2 inches of snow that night but that shouldn't present any significant difficulties...
