This ponderosa forest was quite healthy from a wildfire perspective. A wildfire could move through and almost certainly spare the majority of the older trees. Unfortunately the vast majority of forests in the area are much denser than this. To be clear, I do not know whether this is due to purely ecological reasons or human intervention on some level. Even half a mile away, growth was very differeent.
On the descent from UN 9008' I was treated to a *very* exciting lightning storm. I skipped the actual summit and lost the trail in my haste. (To be honest I think I crossed some private property so don't do what I did).
