For one of my final big alpine hikes of season I decided to make another attempt of the Brainard Lake Traverse that I'd tried almost exactly 1 year prior. I only made it trivially farther than last year: I reached the SE Ridge of Arapaho (Class 4) but it took a while to figure out. After about an hour I decided I was running out of daylight and bailed. Looks like this will become an annual event.
My attempts of the Brainard Lake Traverse on Sept 23, 2018 (blue) and Sept 22, 2019 (yellow). This year I reached the SE Ridge of Apache and avoided descending Shoshoni Peak via the very unstable talus on the east slopes. Both years I took the scrambling route up Audobon, which is much slower, but far superior to the on-trail option. The entire route is labeled "Grande Burrito" (red).
