Utah Road Trip: Monument Valley and Goosenecks State Park (Day 7/10)

I'd been wanting to see Monument Valley for years.  It's been the setting for numerous westerns but the most iconic have been those made by John Ford, of which "The Searchers" is probably the best example.  The movie is pretty good but the best part to me was the scenery.

I was dissapointed this one didn't come out better. The sun was almost directly in front of me (upper left) so it was hard to get the lighting right.

I drove about 15 miles out of the way to get a view of this spaceship

Goosenecks State Park

Goosenecks State Park is basically a parking lot with picnic tables overlooking these incredible canyons.  It was definitely worth stopping at.

Fabulous pictures!!! Even the picture with the horse worked out. The lack of detail on the monument makes the whole picture a little mysterious.

Monument Valley is certainly aptly named! I see you found "The Mittens"! My favorites are your first photo and the one with the weathered remnants of the old tree. It's kind of amazing that it was able to live long enough to leave even that much of a skeleton behind!

Did you also go through Valley of the Gods and up the Moki Dugway to get your view of the Goosenecks? John's Canyon is at the base of the Dugway and worth a wonder and maybe a drive through. If you have been on the Dugway I won't elaborate, but it not check it out. It goes from the base of Cedar Mesa to the top. Our lama trek into the Grand Gulch Primitive area left from a ranger/visitor station on Cedar Mesa. I think you must have been there too. Love the photos and your comments..

I got a taste of Valley of the Gods but didn't have time to get out of the car and explore anything by foot. I also took Moki Dugway! It was getting dark once I left Goosenecks SP (which definitely made that drive more interesting...) so I unfortunately missed a lot of the views in that area. I arrived at Natural Bridges pretty late at night.

I just feel like I am in the best time of my life. A road trip is the best activity if you want to meet other people and experience new things. While it is physically burdening, the memories more than make up for the hassle, promise.

They may look out of style but fanny packs are extremely helpful. They let travelers easily keep an eye on their belongings and keep valuables organized and intact in one small pack. Passing security checks will also be less of a hassle.
