Trip Date: Nov 19, 2017 Interactive map here: https://caltopo.com/m/5RPH Saw lots of deer immediately once I left the trail just before reaching the train tracks. At first I tried to go above the tunnel and go directly up the side of the Mickey Mouse Wall. Scrambling looked fairly serious so I backed off and descended south and crossed the tracks there. I had originally intended on bushwacking all the way to the summit of Eldorado Mt. but it looked like private property up there (lots of commercial radio antennas) so I stopped at a minor unnamed summit about 1000 ft south east of it. The views did not dissappoint. From there I descended down the other side to the Eldorado Canyon State Park side. Crossed the tracks again (I'm not recommending this to anyone...) and took the Rattlesnake Gulch trail and eventually the Fowler trail back towards Boulder. From here I retraced many of the same areas until I got back to the Flatirons Vista TH.

Yes the clouds are fantastic. Elwood use to say clouds like that had snow in them. Of course that is right at their elevation. But what they are and exactly why they are different is a puzzle to me also.

Those clouds are called lenticular clouds. They are caused by high winds at altitude. The sunset (probably that same day) was spectacular. Sadly I didn't get outside with a camera quickly enough.
